Breka app - graduation project

May 2022 - August 2022 (4 months)

Role: UX/UI designer

An app to order ahead while in-store or on the go to pick it up for the famous 24/7 coffee store in Vancouver, Breka.

Project Overview

The product is an app for Breka Bakery & Cafe, a popular place that opens 24/7. The app will bring an easier an up-hand order for customers.

The product:

Breka is a 24/7 coffee shop in Vancouver making it very popular but very commuted. The only option is to order in line. There is no pickup option, online menu to see while in line or to pick on the go.

The problem:

Research

The first step during the research was to asked myself “why would people go to Breka with so many options around them?”

Key take-points:

*Their opening hours (24 hours 7 days)
* Their variety from pastries, snacks and light meals.
* Their multiple locations around Vancouver
* Their prices range from $1.40 - $9.75.

**The research is focus on Vancouver, British Columbia*

Competitor Analysis

“Perfection is the result of consistent hard work”

Goals

  • Give himself a treat in his way to work.

  • Have his constant favourite drink as an easy order to pick up.

  • Have a smooth experience in a pick up order.

Frustations

  • Getting to coffee shops to get in a huge line, make him late to work.

  • Getting late to work.

  • The uncomfortable situation to ask the frontline server about the products allergens content.

  • Having to be quick ordering.

“Is the little things that people actually notice”

Goals

  • Find a place outside my house to go to work.

  • Have the option to order in advance to get to pick up and get to work, to not loose time.

  • Have a place with multiple options to eat from, to choose the same place every-time.

Frustations

  • Low options, getting her to eat always the same thing.

  • Needing to spend a minimum amount at the store to stay.

  • Loosing a lot of time to ordering.

Paper wireframes

The goal:

When I started my main goal was to create the simplest most visual app to order while in store and on the go to grab and pick it up.

Note: I visit Breka at Bute street and notice their main selling tool is the showcase with their products on the entrance. The app needed to show the same feeling when open.

High Fidelity

When I change to high fidelity design, I focus to have a visual app, to have a hungry feeling while seeing it.

I notice that using similar features as an e-commerce will make the ordering online easier for early adopters.

Key insights of consumers

  • They need a rush shopping area online too. (Example; the products at reach hand on the grocery stores)

  • They need to see visual pictures of how the products lookalike.

  • The coffee shop is located on Vancouver a city with more healthy options; the nutritional information table should be available.
